Is there a negative aspect to students only receiving online education? Are we allowing for a disconnect from each other? The benefits of remote schooling is very well presented-- what about the other side of the discussion? Is there any discussion of this in the Poway district?

Hey C-4! I believe that Visionary leadership is essential for a school or district as they work together to close the "Achievement Gap'" that occurs between student groups in our schools. The leader sets the course and holds people accountable for realizing the outcomes of the vision. It is no accident that the first standard addresses this concept. LL

It's interesting how technology is unlocking the future of education, but that state funding is the gatekeeper to continued growth in this sector.

Standard 2- Digital-Age Learning Culture. How do we manage the feeling of instability people feel when they are adapting to change.

Standard 1a. "meet and exceed learning goals." How do we ensure the learning goals include the ability to connect face-to-face with people. Is that a part of our common learning goal of educating global citizens?

My district's current vision is to make public our Zangle program to parents. We already opened attendance to our families. The most recent discussion has centered around posting grades so parents can see them. We plan to go live with grades shortly, but first needed to train all teachers (completed recently) in the use of Zangle GradeBook because only about 60% of our staff is currently using the program. Teachers are now in the process of ensuring their data is in the Zangle GradeBook program.

As the primary student conduct administrator and ombudsperson at CSUSM, the Digital Citizenship (#5) standard regarding ethics, values, and safety makes me think about more 21st century ways to promote academic honesty and learning in and outside the classroom. However, I also need to balance FERPA and confidentiality so ideas such as blogs and shared webpages may not be an option. However, if there are ways to engage students technologically through an interactive honesty/ethnics powerpoint, that would be great.

Standard 4 - b. collaborate to establish metrics, collect and analyze data, interpret results, and share findings to improve staff performance and student
learning
As a University Judicial Officer working with violations of the student code of conduct, I implemented a database that allows us to track numbers of policy violations, how often the same students violate policy, what their sanctions were -- this allows us to determine whether educational interventions we have implemented are affecting student behavior.

Standard 2: Digital age learning culture
When I visited my classrooms the first week of school, I noticed that many of the toddlers that were now in preschool classrooms were in the computer area of the classroom. Although I am not ready (just yet?) to put computers in classsrooms for two year olds, it has been something that I have been thinking about for a while. Sarah

Standard 4: Systemic Improvement: My district has a technology department headed by a Director of Technology. Historically, teachers in my district have wanted leadership with regards to creating, developing, implementing, and evaluating technology curriculum in the classroom. Currently, the focus has been on providing hardware equity within all classrooms with individual teachers or grade-level teams creating their technology lessons based on how efficacious they are about technology.

Eric, I think the negative is that we would be taking students out of the social aspect of school. We may be creating monsters that are socially awkward in life situations...

We received a directive from our Superintendent to make technology a priority this year. Every teacher has a web page and must maintain it on a weekly basis. Our personal and professional goals need to be related to technology in the classroom. Lessons need to have a technolgy piece. It is a stretch for many teachers, including myself. Ana

I was interviewing a guy the other day who used to work at a K-12 online school. While this is exciting, I (like Christa) am concerned about the social aspects of the young kids.

Would like to hear more about the ADA issues. Last thing anyone needs is to implement a program that costs a district money.

standard one & two:
In my position as an Assistant Resident Dean I am able to work with student populations. Although we have not come with a mission statement or goal about how to incorporate technology in the daily work we do. We use blogs, emails, text messaging, chatting, facebook, youtube and other tools to communicate and express ourselves. We are trying to embrace the digital learning culture and have our students benefit from technology. I know that I am advocating for more awareness on this topic therefore I sent my student leaders and other administrators the information on The World is Flat.

Recently in the community services environment, there has been a lot of discussion about how to use web 2.0 tools to market and increase revenues (we are almost all self-supporting). Unfortunately, many offices are the size of MCC (3 full-time, 4 part-time) or smaller. To run a program that has about 10 major programs and no marketing budget, this is a daunting task.

TCO is a great item to discuss. How do we really define free when all aspects of applications are considered?
